Part 1 - The Sweat Lodge - Where Angels Visit
Part 2 - My First Sweat Lodge Experience and Encounter with Angels
First Nation's Healing Cermony
The ceremony’s name slips my mind, but the memory of its impact is something I will never forget.
Instead of holding the event in their sweat lodge, we gathered in the elder's basement in the evening. The idea was to create complete darkness. It was winter, and snow piled against the basement windows blocked all outside light. To ensure total darkness, the elder flipped the breakers in the fuse box, cutting all electricity. The room became totally pitch black.
As the ceremony began, the elder invited the Grandmothers and Grandfathers to join us. During the first round, I noticed nothing unusual at first. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a white light covering a friend seated upright on a bench. I didn’t talk about it once the round ended.
The second round began, and the same white light appeared. This time, the glow was horizontal, outlining my friend’s body. The light was steady completely covering her. Again, I stayed silent, listening as others shared their experiences. Unlike the sweat lodge ceremonies I had attended, this gathering seemed to bring something different for everyone.
When it was my turn to speak, I shared that I hadn’t experienced anything but I did share that I had seen a white light covering my friend during both rounds. I asked her if she had been sitting during the first round and lying down during the second. She said yes.
For the remaining rounds, I continued to see the light around her and could accurately tell whether she was sitting or lying down.
Though I didn’t experience anything as profound as some others might have, I felt completely at ease with the knowledge that the Grandmothers and Grandfathers were with us. Whether you think of them as spirits, angels, or ancestors, their presence was unmistakable. They were there to heal, to guide, and to protect.
